What Are We Even Doing In Cybersecurity🤔🤨?

Cybersecurity is an industry one can easily get lost. With the rate at which cybercrimes are growing, new fields keep emerging within the industry, and roles are being replaced.

I will say the Cybersecurity Industry deals with the following:
👉🏾Deployment (in charge of building, maintaining, or deploying tools used)
👉🏾Responding (in charge of monitoring and analyzing; better-called defensive or blue team)
👉🏾Ethical Hacking (in charge of testing and attacking; better-called offensive or red team)
👉🏾Reviewing (in charge of policies, rules, and guidelines)

Now, let’s dive into the job titles associated with these roles.

🤖Deployment: These are cybersecurity professionals involved in planning, designing, and implementing the cybersecurity infrastructure of a company. Examples are:
👉🏾Security Director
👉🏾Security Architect
👉🏾Solution Architect
👉🏾Cloud Security Engineer

🤖Responding: These cybersecurity professionals spot new cyberattacks as they happen. They are the first line of defense between an organization and an active cyber threat by monitoring networks, analyzing data, and investigating anomalies. Examples are:
👉🏾Intrusion Analyst
👉🏾Incident Manager
👉🏾Incident Response Analyst
👉🏾Security Operations Center Analyst

🤖Ethical hacking: These cybersecurity professionals or testers are responsible for finding gaps in the organization’s defenses by trying to break into the system. These testers find vulnerabilities and ethically hack networks. Examples are:
👉🏾Exploit Developer
👉🏾Bug Bounty Hackers
👉🏾Cybersecurity or Vulnerability Researcher
👉🏾Penetration Tester/ Red Teamer/ Ethical Hacker

🤖Reviewing: According to Mike Miller, Cyber Security is driven by compliance more than we accept. These cybersecurity professionals search for evidence to ensure the organization’s policies and procedures are followed. Examples are:
👉🏾Auditor
👉🏾Consultants
👉🏾Compliance Specialist
👉🏾Governance Risk Compliance Analyst (GRC)

Now these roles differ from level to level. There are entry-level, mid-level, and advanced levels. As cybersecurity analyst is an entry-level role, #CISO is an advanced level.

No matter the area you choose or the level you are at now, understanding the basics is critical✍🏾❗.
One thing I defined for myself when starting this journey is knowing what I want to do and become🥷🧑🏽‍💻.
