GET STARTED
I thought to myself, ‘If I were to start my cybersecurity journey today, what would I do differently?’
Cybersecurity has become the new buzzing word.
Many are asking, ‘How do I get started?’
With an industry as vast as this and so many resources, it is very possible to get lost or overwhelmed.
Come with me as I share my lessons.
LINKEDIN
I know this doesn’t seem like your usual advice, but please read through.
If I am to start my cybersecurity career from the beginning, I will first optimise my LinkedIn page.
My headlines – concise
My profile picture– professional
My bio – summary
I am still discovering more about the power of LinkedIn, and I will be sharing more about this in the future.
Stay tuned.
COMMUNITY
The next thing I will do is find a community to join. The importance of community or connection in cybersecurity can not be over-emphasized.
If a company has been hacked or its data leaked, cybersecurity professionalswill need to patch it up.
How do they get these professionals to avoid raising alerts? They ask professionals for recommendations.
Also, I will be able to get inspiration and access to professionals.
TRAINING
The point we have all been waiting for is training, courses, practice, certifications, etc.
In those communities joined, resources are always shared, either free or vouchers for paid courses.
To start my journey, I will first research the cybersecurity industry, its different pathways, and the topics, skills, and tools needed in each pathway.
Then, I will curate my timetable and follow it squarely.
POSTING
Once I start studying, everyone is going to see meon their timeline on LinkedIn. Anything I discover, I post.
I learned the different pathways, ‘Hello LinkedIn‘
I installed Kali, ‘Hi Linkedin Community‘ I practised on TryHackMe, ‘My good people of LinkedIn‘
I finished a whole project simulating real-life scenarios and organisational issues, ‘Dearest Linkedin, I humbly come before you to speak of my new exploits’
Do you get the gist?
